Create and Manage Folders (OSF Projects)

Folders help organize files in your projects or components. Folders have the same privacy settings and contributor permissions as the project or component in which they live. The contents of a folder are downloaded as a .zip file.

Files Interface

Click the files tab at the top of your project page to open your files page.

Create A Folder

Click on the green plus button on the top right-hand side of your screen.  

Select “create folder” 

 Choose your folder from the dialog box. Type in the folder name. 

Add Files To A Folder

You can either select the folder and upload a new file, or drag and drop an existing file into the folder.

Move Folder

Start by selecting the options box designated by the three vertical dots. 

Select “Move”

Select which folder you would like to move to. 

Click move to confirm the folder transfer. 

Your folder will now be inside the selected folder. 

Moving To Different Add-on Storage

If you would like to move your file to a component, select “move”. If you would like to move your file to a different storage provider, first make sure you have an add-on enabled, then select “move”.

Select the title of your project

This will bring up all add-ons and components associated with your project. Select the folder destination.

Select the destination folder or select “Move” to create a stand-alone folder 

Finish moving your folder by clicking the move button. If the “move” button is not clickable, you need to select to click on a folder. Click Move. Your folder will be moved to its new location. 

Download A Folder As a Zip

Start by selecting the options box designated by the three vertical dots. 

Click the “Download” button to download the folder as a Zip file 

Project Interface

Create a Folder

Open your project, and find the Files section on your project page.

Click the space next to the storage provider name to select it. Click the “Create Folder” button in the toolbar.

Enter the name for the new folder into the textbox, then click the green + icon to create the folder.

The folder will be added to the selected storage location.


Add Files To A Folder

Select the folder to upload a new file, or drag and drop an existing file into the folder.

Move Folders

You can move folders to new storage locations within the project hierarchy. Select a folder, then drag and drop it into the new storage location.

Download A Folder As A Zip

Select the folder from the file tree, then click the “Download as zip” button in the toolbar above the file tree. The folder will be downloaded as a zip file.
